All creatures small and smaller

One of Planet Wimborne’s affiliated groups is St John’s Church, where a whole crowd of children from Wimborne had great fun this summer taking part in the church’s annual holiday club, ‘KidsVenture’. This year’s theme focussed on the Christian idea of real transformation that can be found through God – including the need for things to change for the better in the way we care for our planet.
So, as well as enjoying games, craft and Bible discovery sessions, the children helped to transform a small area of ground beside the church into an ‘Eco Space’, preparing it to be wildlife-friendly. They built a bug hotel with natural materials, planted wildflowers to attract pollinators and created a path to help protect the space. With insect numbers in serious decline, the hope is that this little piece of transformed land will help them to thrive.
The holiday week also included the opportunity for families to follow Wimborne’s Bee Trail and discover the bee homes located around the town.
