Planet Wimborne, together with its community groups, delivered a number of inspiring and engaging events to celebrate Earth Day. Earth Day falls on 22nd April every year and issues a call to action for people across the world to come together to help protect our fragile planet. Planet Wimborne takes this 'Think Global, Act Local' principle to provide a great way for local people to come together and feel part of a bigger community effort.
Local events included making eco-decorations, handing out free seeds, Spring Green on the Minster Green, litter picking, a bird walk and a hedgehog talk.
The star attraction was the unveiling of the Sampling the State of Nature wall-hanging. It was created by eighteen cross-stitchers from the Makers and Shakers craftivism group in Wimborne; one of Planet Wimborne's Community Groups. Rosemary Lunt, a founding member of the group, said, "It shows the stark biodiversity loss in the UK and aims to provoke conversations about the state of nature and what we can all do to help reverse such losses."

Linda Bunting, Chair of Planet Wimborne said, "We are so lucky to live in a beautiful part of the world and we used Earth Day as an opportunity to celebrate that. We want people to realise that in Wimborne and the surrounding area there are many like minded people championing the environment. We ask people to consider what they can do for the environment and how joining one of our community groups is a great way to get started."
