St John’s Church gained a Bronze Eco Church Award* in 2018, thanks to features like solar panels, a ‘Give & Take’ board, Toilet Twinning and effective recycling.
A small Creation Care Team continues to encourage environmental awareness and appropriate action in both church practice and individual lifestyles. We regularly include an eco-tip in our church e-news to all members and have made available a ‘What can I do?’ card which includes practical actions and details of Wimborne’s green community groups. We have a bug hotel, a bird box and will soon have a bee home; we participate in the annual Churches Count on Nature survey; produce from church vegetable beds is donated to Wimborne Community Food Supply; we’re developing a ‘rewilded’ area, planting pollinator-friendly wildflowers; the church has recently installed new low-energy lighting.
More information about St John’s eco journey and activities can be found on our website.
* Eco Church is a national award scheme, administered by Christian conservation charity A Rocha UK, which encourages and equips churches to care for the planet in all areas of church life.
